Mumbai, Jan 11. (PTI): Snapping its five-session losing streak, the benchmark index, Sensex, staged strong comeback to close higher by over 268 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange today on the back of impressive third quarter earnings posted by IT bellwether Infosys Technologies.
The BSE-30 share index, which had lost more than 650 points in the past five sessions, recovered by a whopping 268.55 points, or 2.01 per cent, at 13,630.71. It moved between 13,303.22 and 13,667.80 points.
Similarly, the Nifty index on the broad-based National Stock Exchange shot up by 91.95 points at 3,942.25 after moving between 3833.60 and 3953.10.
Strong earnings by Infosys Technologies also sparked buying interest in other technology stocks such as Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro Ltd and I-flex.
