MUMBAI: Equities lost some ground on account of profit booking at higher levels. Shares of cement and technology firms dragged, but those of energy and power remained firm. At 1:50 pm, the Nifty was 3 points higher at 6182.10, making a high of 6230.15 and low of 6126.40 so far.
The Sensex was down 60 points or 0.3 per cent at 20,404.54. The index swung from a high of 20,519.70 to a low of 20,331.06. Biggest Sensex gainers were Reliance Energy (up 6.07%), NTPC (4.57%), ONGC (3.75%), Reliance Industries (1.61%) and Hindustan Unilever (0.49%).
Grasim Industries (down 3.73%), ITC (3.01%), Wipro (2.87%), TCS (2.79%), ICICI Bank (2.71%) and Infosys Technologies (2.36%) were the losers. Across BSE, 1,631 shares advanced and 1,257 declined. NSE showed 585 gainers and 645 losers. The BSE Oil & Gas Index was 2.19 per cent higher at 13,684.22, and the BSE Power Index added 2.42 per cent to 4,771.27. Stocks remained week in the Asia-pacific region. The KOSPI lost 0.95 per cent, the Hang Seng shed 2.5 per cent and the Straits Times was 1.77 per cent lower.
