On January 21, the Sensex tumbled by 1,408 points on concerns over American economy going into a recession.

January 22 was no different. Trading was suspended for an hour within minutes of markets opening when the Sensex touched 15,576.30 points, 11.53 per cent lower compared to Monday’s close.

On January 23, however, the stock markets finally ended in the positive region, up 864 points.
